The Village of Roscommon, with a population of approximately 1,075 has a total area of 1.6 square miles. The Village is situated in the north central portion of Roscommon County, within Higgins Township, near the apex of I-75 and M-27. Named the county seat for Roscommon County, the Village was incorporated in 1885. The beautiful Au Sable River is the main recreation within the Village, with a stretch known as the “Holy Water” by fishermen and Trout Unlimited. The Au Sable River is not only one of the eastern United States most legendary streams, it is unique among all rivers because it has the most stable flow of any stream in the country. Higgins Lake, once named by the National Geographic Society as one of the six most beautiful lakes in the world is about 8 miles west of the Village.

The Village of Roscommon, due to its geographical location, has many recreational opportunities including canoeing, hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snow-shoe trails, nature walking, bird watching, cycling, camping, hiking, nearby ice fishing, ORV trails, and other outdoor sports. Roscommon is also home to many annual festivals and events, celebrating our beauty and culture. Although the Village’s local population is small, it provides visitors with a wide array of activities, beauty and relaxation.
